Water Conservation Tips!

·        Keep a pitcher of water in the fridge to avoid running water for a cold drink.

·        Do not run water to thaw food.

·        Only run the dishwasher if you have a full load.

·        When washing dishes, don’t run the water constantly.

·        Use a bowl of water to clean food rather than running water.

·        Instead of using your garbage disposal, compost.

·        Only wash full loads of laundry.

·        Make sure that your hoses don’t have any leaks.

·        Replace the parts in your toilets every few years.

·        Test for toilet leaks by adding food coloring to the water tank and don’t flush for 15 minutes. If there is water in the bowl, you may have a leak.

·        Don’t use the toilet to dispose of tissues or other trash.

·        Take a shower because it uses less water.

·        Limit the length of showers to two or three minutes.

·        While shaving, brushing your teeth, and washing your face, don’t let the water run.

·        Don’t continually run water to water your plants, lawn, pets, etc.

Water in the morning or evening to reduce runoffs.

·        Avoid watering paved areas.

·        Avoid using sprinklers with a fine mist to avoid evaporation.

·        Try to have few very grassy spots that require a lot of water.

·        Plant water efficient plants to avoid using a lot of water.

·        Use mulch to help the soil retain water.

·        Shut off and drain the water lines to outside spigots in the winter. This prevents freezing temperatures from causing expensive leaks.

·        If you have an automatic sprinkler system, inspect it regularly for leaks and broken parts.

·        Avoid using the hose to clean areas that could be swept with a broom.

·        When washing vehicles, run the water only to wet and rinse. Use a container to hold the water used for washing.
